Miss K - Hastings. This end of terrace property in Hastings Old Town had a steep recline and scary, narrow, vertical steps down to the house. This was a total redesign, creating deeper beds by curving the new path up to the outdoor studio and creating wider steps up to a seating area that is now closer to the house with a retaining wall.
The boundary walls were made from breezeblocks, with the budget being tight for this garden, rather than remove the breezeblocks, we worked with what we already had and added more breezeblocks for the patio retaining wall. Painted dark grey with sandstone for the path and patio, we created a sleek modern style.
Miss K wanted plenty of flowers throughout the season but mixed with coastal planting, sculptural succulents and Tree Ferns with lush perennials and a mix of ornamental grasses. She can now comfortably get in and out of the garden without fear of falling down the vertical steps.
